One More Suggestion

I am an avid desktop user and have no interest in the cloud version. That means backups. I backup the data file to a USB drive every day. Every time I have to set the path. It's not a big deal but I thought it might be nice to be able to set a default backup path location so that the process is reduced to two or two clicks.

I have a feeling that this has been considered but ruled out.

Thanks.

Hi Jeff,

I can appreciate you may have no interest in the Cloud Edition, and there will always be some people who won't be interested, however from a business perspective the market is moving very forcefully in that direction and we have no choice but to follow. The analogy I like to use is Blockbuster and Netflix where the market transitioned from renting physical dvd's to streaming media within just a few short years, to the point that Blockbuster went from a top company to all but shutdown. We're seeing the same scenario unfold for online software based on demand, and this was confirmed very loud and clear right after we released the Cloud Edition. Again there will always be some people who prefer to rent physical dvd's, even to this day, but unfortunately they are not numerous enough to offset the costs of running a dvd rental store. We're seeing the same transition with Desktop Edition. Within 2 months of being released we're seeing more demand than all the Installed Editions combined, and not by a percentage but rather by many multiples. As I said the transition has been extremely fast, faster then we ever expected!

With that in mind we appreciate your feedback however the Desktop Edition has been discontinued and as such no further updates will be provided for it.

Stephane,

Orphaned again. That's really disappointing, but as long as the desktop version keeps working I will stick with that. I see little advantage in the online version. If/when the desktop version stops working, I'll find another local solution.

As I mentioned in a response to the post below, I don't really get the analogy to Blockbuster/Netflix, but I don't really have to. The change is just the way it is.

Hi Jeff,

I'm sorry to hear you feel this way. That being said, and as I mentioned in the other forum response, I believe there is only one local solution left, everyone else has transitioned to web based offerings. Although we don't know for sure, based on their website their software doesn't seem to have been updated in some time. For example their guides still talk about Windows Vista and Windows 7 which have both been discontinued now by Windows. They also cost significantly more than the LandlordMax Edition cost.

As for the analogy hopefully I better explained it in the other forum post.

I can appreciate wanting installed software but there is a reason there aren't any installed property management software solutions anymore, the market demand for them is already low and dropping at an increasing rate. We ourselves experienced this. The difference in demand once we launched the Cloud Edition made it very clear that we made the right decision as a company, the difference wasn't something like 20% more demand, it was 3000% more demand, and that was within 1 month of publicly releasing it.

I myself personally previously only used installed software but in the last few years I've changed my thinking and gone the other way. I just find it a better solution in most cases for us. Internally we've shifted a lot of the software we use to cloud services. Now I'm not saying this is the way for you by any means, just that for me personally as I tried cloud services I found myself liking them more and more. I went in kicking and screaming as is evident in my personal blog posts from 3-5 years ago, but having now transitioned I don't think I could go back. Just like using the other analogy in the other forum post, I was not interested in gas cars but once I started to use them I found that I no longer wanted to go back to horses. Maybe it will be the same for you and maybe not, but overall that's what happening industry wide so we either have to transition with it or be left behind.
