Current version and web-based versions

Can the two-user version be networked over the internet or only intranet? Secondly, I read that you plan to offer a web-based version before the end of summer. Will you still offer the current versions, specifically the $199, $499 or $999 versions, after you come out with the web-based version? Will you still offer support and/or upgrades for those? I know we would prefer to use the current versions, so if they are being phased out, how long will they be available? Thanks.

Hi Karen,

Please find the answers to your questions below:

1. Can the two-user version be networked over the internet or only intranet?

You can network them over your intranet and/or the internet. In other words you can do both.

2. Thanks.

Yes that's correct, however right now are estimates have been revised to be in the fall to early winter.

That being said we don't have an official response at this time as we're currently working through the business models. That being said, assuming we do, the pricing will changed from a fixed price to a monthly price. In other words once the web based version is released all offerings will be priced on a monthly basis.

What we generally recommend, and we've been recommending this for years, is to make your decision based on the software as it is right now. It's never a good idea to make decisions on what could potentially happen in the future, you never know when that will happen or if it will happen, and of course if you do you will always be waiting for the next version. For example if you want to buy an iPhone you should decide if you want the current version or not, if you want to wait to see if the next iPhone version will be better, you can rest assured it will, but if you wait you will always be waiting because next year there is always a newer and better one, and if you always wait you will never have the chance to have one because you will always be waiting.

That being said, regardless of whether or not we phase them out in the future, we will of course offer people the opportunity to convert to the newest system, we have a lot of people who have been with us over a decade now and we plan on continuing to support them for decades to come.

As well because the web based version will be monthly, depending on when you bought the software and which Edition you purchased, we may apply some of your purchase amount towards any monthly subscription. In other words say you paid $10 for the software 3 months ago and the monthly price is $1, then we would give you 7 months of free subscription ($10 / $1/mth = 10 months, then 10 months - 3 months = 7 months remaining). We basically want to remove any worries people have in terms of upgrading. And if you decide not to upgrade you can of course continue to use the version you purchased.

All to say we expect the price to increase when the web version is released to be more in line with current market rates (we have only had two minor price increases in the last 10 years). And of course we will have paths to upgrade regardless of where the future leads us.

Hi Ed,

Please find the answers to your questions below:

1. so you are not adding a cloud version?

We are very much actively working on releasing a cloud Edition. We were hoping for late 2015 however right now it's looking more like late 2016. Because of the scale and complexity we aren't able to give an official release date. What I can say with certainty is that we're very much actively working on it and want to release it as soon as possible.

2. your going to do away with selling the $199?

We haven't made any official decisions on which Editions will be available when the Cloud Edition is released. That being said we do no plan on moving to a recurring pricing model, the fixed pricing model is no longer appropriate based on our ongoing costs, and in fact most of the software world is or has already moved to this business model. Within the next 5+ years only a very few and rare solutions will still be offered as a fixed price for a version, it's just no longer feasible with the way computers and technology work today.

3. the on new purchases will be monthly?

Yes we will be moving to a monthly pricing model when the Cloud Edition is released. Although we don't have any official pricing models available yet I can assure you that we'll remain significantly more affordably priced than our competitors.
