Two Laptops using Landlord Max

Seidah Smith | email Sep 26 2016, 04:39 PM
Hi,

I have been reading the responses for the different questions on exporting/importing info between laptops/desktops as long as they each have the LLM software downloaded. I saved a back up file and have not been able to import the backup file on the other Mac. We were able to import the backup file a month ago so not sure what is going on. Could it be that I didn't save it in the correct format or file?

Hi Seidah,

Firstly please note that any purchase of the Desktop Edition after 2013 (and especially with version 11.05) requires two Desktop Edition licenses to be able to use the software on two computers (such as a laptop and desktop). The license is for 1 user on 1 computer. This has been stated on the purchase page, the license agreement, as well as Section 9.1 of the user manual at: http://www.landlordmax.com/support/index.php?pg=kb.book&id=2 I'm mentioning this because you seem to have a single license and I wasn't able to look up your purchase order under your email address and/or name.

That being said if you can let us know what you mean by you were not able to import the backup file that would really help. For example are you getting an error message, and if so what is the error message? The more details and information you can provide us the better we can assist you.

Hi Stephanie,

I do the bookkeeping for a client and he purchased the software/license and purchased the option where they could add me as a user so I could be able to enter the tenant info and so forth. With that said, I go to the Import/Export menu and select Database Management, I always back up files when I work in LLM. I then email him the file that I saved. But the client is unable to restore to their laptop that way. They don't get an error message. I then saved the back up file again and then asked if they could see the back up file when they click on the restore section of LLM. And still nothing.
As I stated in my initial email, a month ago he was able to update his database based on the back up file I saved. I do not recall what I did but it worked. Now I'm trying to follow the following directions from a previous forum question, "To backup your database, go to the "Import/Export" workarea, and then select "Database Management". On this screen you will find four main sections, click on "Browse" button of the "Backup Database" section and select where you'd like to save a backed up copy of your database.
Then on your other computer, again go to the same screen. This time, rather than click on the "Browse" button of the "Backup Database" section, click on the "Browse" button of the "Restore Database" section and find and select your backed up database file which you transfered to your other computer," and this is not working. Not sure what I'm missing.
Please help.
Thanks.

Hi Seidah,

Based on what you described I would recommend you contact us directly at support@LandlordMax.com because troubleshooting this further will require additional information that is probably better left to a private discussion. For example one item we'll have to confirm is your client's license because we'll need to confirm their license does include both computers in case this is the issue. In addition we'll need information such as the version number of LandlordMax you're using and so on. Therefore please contact our support team directly and we'll be able to better assist you.
